{"id":3338,"date":"2020-12-21T15:26:46","date_gmt":"2020-12-21T12:26:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.orgbalt.eu\/?page_id=3338"},"modified":"2021-02-03T19:22:35","modified_gmt":"2021-02-03T16:22:35","slug":"demo-site-fic101","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.orgbalt.eu\/?page_id=3338","title":{"rendered":"Demo site FIC301"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>CONTINUOUS COVER FORESTRY  ON PEATLAND<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> Selective&nbsp;felling&nbsp;without&nbsp;full&nbsp;ditch&nbsp;network&nbsp;maintenance&nbsp;is&nbsp;implemented&nbsp;for&nbsp;studying&nbsp;forest&nbsp;regeneration&nbsp;and&nbsp;greenhouse&nbsp;gas&nbsp;fluxes&nbsp;in&nbsp;nutrient&nbsp;rich&nbsp;peatland&nbsp;spruce&nbsp;forest.&nbsp;Conventional&nbsp;clear&nbsp;cut&nbsp;and&nbsp;uncut&nbsp;plots&nbsp;are&nbsp;used&nbsp;as&nbsp;cOmparison.\u200b <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Potential&nbsp;benefits&nbsp;of&nbsp;continuous&nbsp;forest&nbsp;cover&nbsp;forestry&nbsp;practices:\u200b<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Lower\u00a0impact\u00a0to\u00a0environment\u00a0conditions\u00a0in\u00a0forest\u00a0stand\u00a0\u00a0\u200b<\/li><li>Remaining\u00a0tree\u00a0stand\u00a0evapotranspiration\u00a0controls\u00a0soil\u00a0water-table<\/li><li>Reduced\/no\u00a0need\u00a0for\u00a0ditch\u00a0network\u00a0maintenance<\/li><li>Reduced\u00a0change\u00a0in\u00a0soil\u00a0CO2 emission\u00a0after\u00a0harvesting<\/li><li>Reduced\u00a0inputs\u00a0of\u00a0water\u00a0and\u00a0plant\u00a0nutrients\u00a0to\u00a0surface\u00a0water\u00a0bodies<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>The LIFE\u00a0OrgBalt\u00a0project aims to implement a wide range of innovative organic soil management measures to demonstrate how these areas can be managed sustainably,\u00a0taking into account\u00a0economic, social\u00a0and climate aspects. 16 project demonstration sites have been established in Latvia and Finland.
