International stakeholders meet at the 3rd Steering Group meeting of the LIFE OrgBalt

On February 4, 2021, the 3rd Steering Group meeting of the LIFE OrgBalt project gathered international stakeholders – 35 scientists and policy makers from the Baltic States, Finland and Germany.

Members of the Steering Group were introduced with a progress of the project during last six months.

Participants of the Steering Group were asked to join the discussion about LULUCF sector development – the strengthening of the current LULUCF Regulation and increasing its ambition as well as the architecture of EU climate policy when it comes to agriculture and land use.

The Steering Group held online was attended by 35 specialists, scientists and policy makers – the representatives of Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Finland, Estonian Ministry of Rural Affairs, Estonian Environmental Agency, University Tartu, Thünen-Institute, Ministry of Environment of Lithuania, Ministry of Agriculture of Lithuania, Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development of Latvia, Ministry of Agriculture of Latvia, State Regional Development Agency of Latvia, Rural Development Service of Latvia, Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.

The LIFE OrgBalt shares its progress and results with the international Steering Group twice a year to facilitate impact on national climate policy planning documents.

LIFE OrgBalt is being implemented by Latvian State Forest Research Institute “Silava” in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Latvia, Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies, University of Tartu (Estonia), Natural Resources Institute Finland LUKE, Lithuanian Research Centre for Agriculture and Forestry, Michael Succow Foundation (Germany) and Association Baltic Coasts (Latvia) from 2019 to 2023 and has received funding from the LIFE Programme of the European Union and the State Regional Development Agency of Latvia.
